Confused Travolta: Making Of
My first ever paid meme job!
After my previous GIF ( Travolta at my wedding - http://imgur.com/gallery/ncYUQoN ) got 6.2 million views, a company got in touch and asked if I could make them one too.
Final GIF and original source clip are attached for comparison.
PROCESS:
First, I set up some motion tracking using the white spots in the background hedges, so that everything else I added would move with the shake of the camera.
Then I removed the original man, using a fake patch of hedge, and some masking to remove his upper body (but leaving his legs!).
Next I dropped in Travolta, and set him up for motion tracking, tweaking his path slightly to match the movement of the original man.
Then the most painstaking (but rewarding) part - masking the 2 ladies walking past, frame-by-frame. This gives it the effect that Travolta is in the background, standing behind them. This is the part shown in my shot.
Finally, some colour correction and levels editing, as well as some minor (but all important) masking of things like the original man's arm over the lady next to him (she gets a fake arm and shoulder), and hiding his hands that swing around below Travolta's jacket.
Phew!
